...And the fashion nominees are in!

Nominations for the London Design Museum awards are in. Here's a little blurb from their website:

The Design Museum’s Design Awards, ‘the Oscars of the design world’, showcase the most innovative and progressive designs from around the world, spanning seven categories: Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Product and Transport. A high profile judging panel will decide the best entries in each of the seven categories. Category award winners and the overall winner of the Design of the Year Award 2012 will be announced at an Awards event in April 2012.

I'm a Lady, I am

Have you ever seen a more elegant lady? Last referenced {here}, A was looking elegant to go and see Diavolo.

Blair waldorf: high school princess (scratch that–I meant queen!)

Blair Waldorf. Known for being a main character on Gossip Girl, as well as having a wicked sense of style.

Let's take a look at the latter, shall we?

Dresses & Skirts

When I was looking for photos of Leighton Meester / Blair Waldorf, I quickly realized that I couldn’t find a single photo of her wearing pants! Blair is all about skirts and dresses, worn with tights in the winter and bare legs in the warmer months. She’s not into denim at all, so if you want to dress like Blair, forget about jeans.

Tailored, Classic Pieces

Since she attends an upscale private school, many of Blair’s outfits are school-uniform appropriate. That means she wears lots of collared shirts, simple skirts, and ties. You can channel a little bit of prep school chic yourself with a structured button-up blouse and navy blue skirt. For extra Blair appeal, add a brightly colored headband and tights.

Pops of Color

No matter how subdued Blair’s outfit may be, she always incorporates a pop of color in some way. Whether it’s a bright red trench coat over a navy dress, a technicolor bag, or orange leggings under her school uniform, Blair keeps her look fresh with brights.  Her favorite colors are red (her signature), orange, and yellow.

Girly Details

Blair is a total girly-girl at heart, and because of this, she loves to incorporate feminine touches like lace, bows, and ruffles, into her outfits. This is also her go-to look for formal events and parties. 

Dressed-Up Loungewear

Even when Blair is sleeping, she still looks completely chic! A Waldorf doesn’t wear regular flannel pajamas to bed – she sleeps in a designer negligee. And hanging around the house doesn’t mean wearing sweats! Blair has been known to wear a satin dressing gown instead. 

Blair’s Accessories

Headbands

Blair’s signature hair accessories are her hundreds of different headbands!  From tartan to satin, Blair wears her headbands in every style you can imagine. She usually wears them with her hair down, but occasionally pulls a headband over a sleek bun or ponytail. 

Tights

In the winter months, Blair’s wardrobe revolves around tons of different pairs of tights. She rocked every shade of tights imaginable, from bright red, to white, gray, and the ever popular black opaque tights. Tights are on the way out because warmer weather is fast approaching, but of course you can still wear them on cold days or if the mood strikes this summer.

Blair’s Hairstyles

Blair Waldorf almost always wears her medium length brown hair down in loose waves with lots of volume. These aren’t Serena’s messy curls, though. Blair always looks polished, and her hair is no exception.

Can I Just Say...

...that Fashion Week is an excellent idea? Whoever thought of having a week filled beyond the brim of wonderful, whimsical, usually-not-functional fashion is pure genius.

That being said, recently in our Spanish class, we had to make a presentation on a Latino (or is Hispanic more PC?) celebrity. Now some chose Shakira, another Enrique Iglesias (who, though may be 37-ish, is still lookin' mighty fine), but I, yes I, chose Oscar de la Renta. And honestly, it was the best choice. I got to watch fashion show after fashion show after fashion show... all for homework. Now I would be glad to post the finished product (a movie) for you, but alas, it's in Spanish.

But, going to back to Fashion Week, Oscar de la Renta? Brava brava brava.

But besides the creepy clapping hands with no body, that show was fabulous. And now you may be asking yourself, 'how in the world does she know? Was she at Fashion Week?' But alas, I was not there. Though in fact, I could've there, thanks to a wonderful thing called Youtube. In a nutshell, Youtube had a live feed of Fashion Week, as well as some wonderful wonderful person who posted de la Renta's entire Spring 2012 line.

The royal wedding part 3 (aka the final part): Grace, Kate, Diana, the recession, and did I mention oogling at Prince Harry?

...And here is the 3rd and final segment to our royal wedding commentary! Without further adieu, here it is:

Him: So the last part of our Kate and Will's wedding coverage, huh?
Me: Yup, and there's still one thing we haven't covered yet...
Him: THE DRESS!
Me: Wow. You sound even more excited than I am.
Him: Erm... Sorry.
Me: No need to be sorry about it. Let's take a look at Kate's dress.

Him: That's a nice picture of Kate, erm... Catherine side by side with Grace Kelly.

Me: Yes it is, especially due to the similarities in their wedding gown styles.

Him: Um... I don't mean to burst your bubble, but they're the exact same.

Me: You mean their dresses? They're similar, but different.

Him: And how so?

Me: Well, Grace Kelly's seems more conservative, befitting her time, though of course the lace sleeves (which I adore) were considered modern back then. Princess Grace's dress is also belted at the waist with a matching white sash, while Kate's is more free, also with a lower neckline.

Him: You mean plunging neckline.

Me: Oh there's always worse.

Him: True and I can't help but notice that Kate's hair being down makes the whole look much more modern and relaxed than Grace's look.

Me: Now you're talking like a real fashionista! Kate's veil is also simpler. Her veil and train are so much shorter than Diana's.

Him: That's not saying much. Diana's dress was almost all the way to the door!

Me: If I remember correctly, Diana's train was about 25 feet long.

Him: So how many meters would that be?

Me: I actually forgot that you were British and didn't know feet! It's about 7.62 meters.

Him: The only question I have now is how on earth did she walk with that thing on?

Me: I'm afraid I can't help you with that one, but here's another picture. I think she tries to remain quite stationary.

Him: I can't see her in all that fabric. Someone help! She's drowning in fabric!

Me: I just feel bad for whoever was carrying all that fabric behind her.

Him: Maybe with the recession they're cutting back on poor Kate's train.

Me: Sure...

Him: You never know what Parlament is up to.

Me: ...

Him: So let's take a look at what Wills is wearing since we just looked at the bride.

Me: Oh, whatever, but you know it's true. This picture is so much more flattering. He even has HAIR!

Me: Thanks for bursting my bubble.

Him: More like crushing your dreams of a just happily married guy.

Me: I like the best man slightly better.

Him: What is it with the royal family and military uniforms?

Me: Shouldn't you know since you were one of the lucky few invited?

Him: Well the invite said that men should wear uniforms, morning coats, or lounge suits.

Me: That explains it, and I'm just curious but if you could have gone, which would you have chosen.

Him: What I would have chosen and what I would have worn are two separate things.

Me: Do explain.

Him: I would have chosen to a loung suit, but my mother would have expected me to wear a morning coat.

Me: I didn't even know you owned a morning coat.
